SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter
SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter uses a multi-layered filtration process consisting of activated carbon filter media, a pre-filtration layer, and a post-filtration layer.
Faucet water filters offer a perfect alternative to other water filtering systems such as water pitchers, countertops, under-sink, and whole-house units. Unlike these systems, faucet water filters are quite affordable, and compact, and offer troublesome installation and less maintenance. They are also pressure-fed systems, which means most can deliver filtered water on demand.
Today, we’ll be looking at one of these filters, that is, the SJ Wave ACF faucet water filter. It’s amongst the top faucet water filters on the market, and it’s a product of SJ WAVE, a company that specializes in producing water solutions ranging from faucet filters to shower filters and water testing strips.
Despite its budget-friendly price, this SJ Wave ACF faucet-mounted filter system still manages to provide an effective filtration process as well as most of the features found on other models with higher price tags. It utilizes a multi-layered filtration process that does a great job of removing chlorine, heavy metals, and other common contaminants found in tap water.
The other thing that makes it stand out is that it offers a great flow hence it hardly affects your water pressure. It also has a large filtration capacity (320 gallons) compared to most other standard faucet water filters (averages around 200 gallons).
The whole unit is well built and durable, plus it has a cute design that makes it look attractive. It almost fits all standard kitchen faucets, and it’s compact and easy to install and use – it has a switch that lets you easily switch between filtered water and tap water.
Overall, a lot of users reported that they were very pleased with the unit, and in this review, we’ll share our insights on its performance, ease of use, build quality, and other features that make it stand out. We will also highlight its drawbacks to give you a better idea of what you’ll be getting should you consider purchasing it.
The SJ Wave ACF faucet water filter uses a multi-layered filtration process consisting of activated carbon filter media, a pre-filtration layer, and a post-filtration layer. It’s not the most robust filtration system, but it’s very effective at removing common contaminants in tap water, mainly chlorine, heavy metals, and sediments.
The first layer of filtration traps the large impurities and particles present in the water as it enters the mounting base. The water then gets into the filter base, where it goes through the second layer, which filters out suspended solids, colloids, sand, rust, and other tiny particles.
From the second layer, the water goes through the activated carbon filter media, which makes up the third and fourth layers of filtration. Here, the activated carbon clears nearly all the residual chlorine in water and the unpleasant taste and odor that the water may have due to the chlorine content in it. The activated carbon also effectively removes fluoride and heavy metals, such as lead, benzene, and asbestos.
The water then goes through the post-filtration layer, which is the final stage of filtration, and it blocks any fine particles that may still be lurking in the water.
This multi-layer filtration process works so effectively, removing more than 98% of chlorine content in the water and over 90% of turbidity too, leaving you with clean and fresh drinking water. It does all these without removing the beneficial minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium.
Almost all users reported that they noticed a difference in their water quality immediately after using the filter. They mentioned that the flavor and smell of the water changed instantly. It tasted pure, fresh, and clean. Others mentioned that the water comes out crystal clear – no cloudiness or haziness that’s often seen in tap water.
The filter basically seems highly effective as a few users who had a lot of chlorine in their water reported that they couldn’t taste it at all with this filter in place. Instead, the water tastes really clean and fresh. They mentioned that the unit filtered out more chlorine taste and odor than the previous faucet filter systems. So, it’s quite effective and ideal for filtering water that has a high amount of chlorine.
Capacity and Flow Rate
The maximum filtration capacity of the SJ Wave ACF faucet water filter is 320 gallons, which is pretty large compared to most regular faucet filters – their capacity usually ranges from 100 to 200 gallons.
With a 320-gallon capacity, the SJ Wave ACF can go for about 3 to 6 months before requiring replacement, but this will depend on the quality of your water supply and the usage. If it’s fairly clean or doesn’t have high chlorine content, it can go more than six months – probably eight months or so.
However, for water with medium to high chlorine content, sediments, or heavy metals, you may need to change the filter cartridge sooner – every 3 to 4 months, depending on the usage.
The filtration speed is impressive too. There’s no change in the water pressure after installing the filter. Many users reported that it’s really strong, in fact much stronger than the last faucet filter they had. The SJ Wave ACF can process up to 0.5 gallons of water every minute, which is a great flow that equally translates to great pressure and, ultimately, a faster filling rate.
A single 8-ounce glass/cup takes about 5 seconds to fill, so you can fill five large water bottles (16 ounces each) in just under a minute. In other words, it basically filters the water at the same speed that a regular faucet outputs water, which means there’s hardly any delay. Some even mentioned that the filter system significantly improved their water pressure after installing it. Moreover, the water flow is terrific both on the filtered and non-filtered sides.
The downside is that it starts to drop in the filtered section as the end of the filter’s lifespan nears. It’s, however, not a significant drop if your water is fairly good. The pressure still remains sufficient for normal use – you can get a cup/glass of filtered water in less than 30 seconds. It only gets worse if your water supply is very poor, as it can take more than a minute to get a single glass of filtered water.
Installing the SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter was easy for most users as the process is relatively straightforward and requires no tool. You just unscrew the attachment nut from the mounting base, remove the original aerator from your kitchen faucet, and then select the right adapter that will fit in. Once you have the right adapter, you then insert the matching silicon washer into it and tighten the adapter onto the faucet using your hand or the provided key.
From there, you place the attachment nut between the adapter and the faucet and then screw the attachment nut onto the mounting base. The next step is to install the filter system to the mounting base – you have to set the filter cartridge first before proceeding.
To do so, you open the upper cover of the filter cartridge, remove the protection film on it, put it back into the filter base firmly, and then twist the upper cover back to the filter base.
Once you have that set, you insert the filter base into the mounting base and rotate it 90 degrees upwards gently to secure it. With everything in place, you just choose tap water or filtered water using the switch on the mounting base, and you are good to go. However, you have to flush the filter cartridge for one minute or more before using the filtered water.
Generally, you won’t have any challenges as far as installation is concerned. You’ll be able to do it on your own, and it can take less than 5 minutes. Plus, SJ WAVE has included an instructions manual to guide you, although it seems unclear where the silicon/rubber washers need to go.
The filter is ergonomically designed and can fit most standard faucets, except handheld, pull-out, and irregular faucets – it can work with most typical faucet aerator sizes.
Moreover, the company has included six adapters of different sizes in order to accommodate different-sized faucet aerators so that you can use the one that fits perfectly to your faucet. There are three external threaded adapters of sizes 0.89 inches, 0.83 inches, and 0.81 inches, and three internal threaded adapters of sizes 0.93 inches, 0.85 inches, and 0.77 inches.
All you need to do is select the correct one that fits your faucet and keep the rest should you change the faucet and need a different adapter, which is very convenient. In case none of the adapters fit, SJ WAVE has also included a multi-functional/multi-purpose adapter that you can use.
A Teflon tape has as well been included in the package, and it comes in handy when the connection to the faucet doesn’t stay tight, which can lead to leaks. With the Teflon tape, you can ensure a watertight seal.
However, we could hardly find any complaints about leaks. Thanks to the various sized adapters, many users reported that their SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter fits perfectly on their faucet with no leaks, so you may not have to use the Teflon tape at all if you choose the right adapter.
You won’t have to do much maintenance with this SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter either. The only thing required is changing the filter cartridge, which is super easy. You just twist off the upper cover of the filter base, pull out the filter cartridge, and pop a new one in.
From there, you close the filter base upper cover, and you are done. You don’t have to detach the filter base from the mounting base to get the filter cartridge out. It’s a simple and convenient process that won’t take more than 5 minutes to do.
As we mentioned earlier, the filter lasts 3 to 6 months, depending on your usage and the amount of chlorine and other contaminants in your water.
One thing that’s missing, though, is a filter life indicator. The only way to know when you need a new filter is if you notice a significant drop in the water flow from the filtered section of the faucet filter. A change in the water taste is another sign that would tell you that the filter needs changing.
Those are the only two methods you can rely on, or you can also track the filter’s lifespan from the time of installation in order to change it once the 4 or 6 months are up – this is only reliable when your water is relatively clean.
Build Quality and Design
The whole unit seems to be sturdily made. The filter base, mounting base, and all the adapters are made of food-grade plastic that’s lead and BPA-free. They are very strong for being just plastic – there’s no wobbling or any part that feels flimsy. It’s a unit that can last for a long time without breaking or cracking, even with lots of use.
Besides the strong build, the unit has a unique design that makes it attractive and fun to use. It has a nice sleek finish that would look good on the faucet, plus the little bear face on the filter base is so dang cute and would add a bit of joy to any kitchen. The other cool thing is that the top of the filter base is transparent, so you get a slight peek of the water as it runs through the filter.
Another thing we liked was the small footprint of the unit. It measures 5.35 inches long, 2.48 inches wide, and 4.17 inches high. This is quite a low-profile design compared to other faucet filters. It doesn’t extend more than 3 inches from the faucet, and the nozzles for both the filtered and unfiltered water aren’t lowered too much like other designs.
It’s basically a very compact faucet filter ideal for short sinks. It doesn’t block the entire sink, which makes it useful and easy to maneuver around even when there are dishes and other utensils in the sink.
SJ Wave ACF faucet water filter has equally made transitioning from filtered to tap water smooth and easy by including a simple switch that works perfectly. It has a lever that you just flip up to get filtered water for drinking or other purposes – flipping the lever down switches to tap water which is unfiltered and suitable when washing vegetables or utensils.
The switch itself is a perfect size. It’s not a tiny little knob you see on other faucet filters that tend to be very stiff. It turns very easily, hence it doesn’t slow you down when you want to wash your hands quickly or dispense a glass of filtered water.
The water flows out of the new tap water aerator/nozzle in a wide spay, which many seemed to like since it’s much better for cleaning and rinsing things like vegetables, dishes, and hands. The water flow from the filtered water nozzle is narrow but fast, making filling containers, cups, or water bottles easy.
There’s nothing serious to dislike about this SJ Wave ACF Faucet Mount Water Filter. Overall, like many other users, we were very pleased with its performance, filtration capacity, and build quality.
It’s undoubtedly a great option for anyone looking for a reliable yet budget-friendly faucet filter capable of delivering cleaner water, and it’s easy to use and can fit most standard faucet aerators.
We would highly recommend it if your local water supply has a lot of chlorine or if you need to remove lead and other heavy metals from your tap water. It’s a good solution, too, if you want to get rid of fluoride from your water.
The filter cartridge has a fairly long lifespan compared to most regular faucet filters, and it also offers a faster flow. It doesn’t really affect your water pressure – it can make it even much better. Moreover, the filter system can work with both cold and hot water.
Many users were pleased too with the great customer support from the company. They reported that the staff are very friendly and respond promptly to questions. So, you can expect to get quick assistance in case of any issues or inquiries about the unit. You can contact them via email, which is available on the company’s website.
