Simpure Y7 Review
The Simpure Y7 water filtration system is designed to provide clean and healthy water for your entire family.
The SimPure Y7P countertop reverse osmosis (RO) system is one of the most requested models from readers—and for good reason. It’s compact, installation-free, and promises high-efficiency purification at a mid-range price.
But how well does it actually filter water?
To find out, I ran the Y7P through a full evaluation, including Tap Score certified lab testing, and assessed its design, filtration performance, ease of use, long-term costs, and overall value.
Below is everything you need to know before deciding whether the SimPure Y7P is worth your money.
Price & Ongoing Costs
At around $370, the SimPure Y7P sits in the middle of the countertop RO market. It’s cheaper than premium systems like the Bluevua ROPOT or RKIN U1, but slightly pricier than some AquaTru or Waterdrop models.
One important cost factor many people overlook is long-term maintenance. Based on real-life usage:
- Filter replacement costs average just 10 cents per gallon,
making it one of the most affordable countertop RO systems to maintain.
Like all electric RO units, you will also have minor water and power usage costs, but these are negligible.
Design & Features
The Y7P is designed as a countertop, no-installation RO system, making it ideal for renters or anyone who doesn’t want to modify plumbing.
How It Works
- You fill the rear water tank manually.
- An electric pump pushes water through:
- Stage 1: PP + carbon block filter
- Stage 2: Reverse osmosis membrane
- Purified water is stored in an internal tank and dispensed on demand.
- A built-in UV light provides additional microbial protection inside the purified tank.
User Interface
The front panel includes:
- Filter replacement indicator
- Water shortage alert
- Preset dispensing buttons
- Flush and reset controls
One notable omission:
The Y7P does not provide a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) display—something commonly found on competing units.
Similarities to the Waterdrop N1
Based on internal components and filtration design, the SimPure Y7P appears nearly identical to the Waterdrop N1. In fact, many countertop RO systems (including models from RKIN and BlueVua) likely use filters manufactured by the same facilities in China—just branded differently.
Setup & Maintenance
The Y7P is one of the simplest RO systems to set up:
- No plumbing
- No tools
- Preinstalled filters
- Ready to use within minutes
Filter changes are also effortless: remove the old cartridge, twist in the new one, and you’re done. The display panel alerts you when replacements are due.
Efficiency
Where traditional under-sink RO systems may waste 4 gallons for every 1 gallon of purified water, the SimPure Y7P does the opposite:
- 4:1 purified-to-wastewater ratio
This is among the highest efficiency ratings of any countertop RO system I’ve tested.
The system continuously circulates and re-filters water until the tank is nearly empty, which significantly reduces wastewater.
NSF Safety Certification
The Y7P is NSF 58 certified for materials safety, meaning all components in contact with water meet food-grade safety standards.
However, as I’ll discuss later, it is not certified for contaminant reduction performance.
How Well Does It Actually Filter Water?
To evaluate filtration performance, I used Tap Score, a certified laboratory by SimpleLab, and followed my standard test protocol:
- Mixed a large batch of tap water thoroughly to evenly distribute contaminants.
- Collected the “before” sample directly from the batch.
- Ran the same batch through the SimPure Y7P and collected the “after” sample.
- Sent both samples to the lab for analysis.
Contaminants Detected
The results show that your water contains eight contaminants, including fluoride and uranium, which were both found above recommended health guidelines. These two contaminants are the most concerning and are strong reasons to use a reliable filtration system.
The other contaminants – like nitrate, sulfate, copper, strontium, barium, and molybdenum – were all present at low, acceptable levels, but still contribute to overall water quality issues.
Your water also had 2 ppm of chlorine, which isn’t harmful but makes the water taste and smell worse.
What this means for you:
The water coming into your home isn’t extremely dangerous, but it does contain substances that exceed health recommendations, plus several others you likely don’t want in your drinking water. A high-quality water filter—especially one that can remove fluoride, uranium, and chlorine—will make your water safer, cleaner, and much better-tasting.
8 health-related contaminants were detected, including:
- Fluoride – 1.2 ppm (exceeds health guideline)
- Uranium – 0.0099 ppm (exceeds guideline)
- Nitrate
- Sulfate
- Strontium
- Copper
- Barium
- Molybdenum
- 2 ppm chlorine affecting taste and odor
Post-Filtration Results
After passing through the SimPure Y7P, the lab results showed that the system completely removed every major contaminant of concern, including fluoride, uranium, chlorine, copper, barium, strontium, sulfate, and molybdenum.
These were the contaminants linked to the biggest health or taste issues in the unfiltered water—and the Y7P eliminated all of them to undetectable levels.
What this means for you:
The SimPure Y7P delivers excellent purification for the contaminants that matter most. It not only makes the water safer by removing fluoride and uranium, but also improves the taste and smell by eliminating chlorine. Overall, the system provides a strong level of protection and produces noticeably cleaner, better-tasting drinking water.
The SimPure Y7P completely removed:
- Fluoride
- Uranium
- Chlorine
- Copper
- Barium
- Strontium
- Sulfate
- Molybdenum
Nitrate was not fully eliminated, but still reduced by 78%.
This is strong performance for a two-stage countertop RO unit.
UV Performance
The UV lamp could not be evaluated because our municipal water is already disinfected with chlorine. Regardless, UV in this system is best thought of as biofilm prevention inside the purified tank, not a replacement for proper microbial treatment.
Water pH & Minerals
Because the Y7P lacks a remineralization filter, it significantly reduces healthy minerals:
- Magnesium ↓ 95%
- Calcium ↓ 94%
- Sodium ↓ 73%
As expected, the water becomes slightly acidic, dropping from pH 7.1 to pH 6.3.
If you prefer alkaline or mineral-rich water, you’ll need to add minerals back manually.
Drawbacks
While the SimPure Y7P performed well in filtration, it had more drawbacks than most countertop RO units I’ve tested.
1. No Remineralization Option
You cannot add a built-in remineralization filter.
This results in acidic, mineral-free water.
2. Not Performance-Certified
Although SimPure advertises “SGS tested,” SGS is not a certification body.
The Y7P does not hold an NSF/ANSI certification for contaminant reduction—only for materials safety.
3. Slow Filtration Speed
- It took 7 minutes and 15 seconds to filter its 0.4-gallon internal tank.
- Flushing the filter cartridges (required 3–5 times before first use) took almost 2 hours.
4. Plastic Tanks
Some consumers prefer glass-contact systems to minimize potential chemical leaching.
5. Annoying Design Flaws
- Loud beeping for 10 seconds when the tank is removed or empty
- Flimsy cupholder
- Water tank lid gets in the way during refilling
- No trial period or satisfaction guarantee, unlike competitors
Final Verdict: Is the SimPure Y7P Worth It?
Choose the SimPure Y7P if:
- You want excellent contaminant removal
- You prefer a plug-and-play countertop system
- You value low maintenance costs
- You want one of the most water-efficient RO units available
Avoid it if:
- You want remineralized or alkaline water
- You prefer glass water contact
- You want a system with NSF performance certifications
- Slow filtration or loud alerts bother you
Overall, the Y7P is a strong performer with great efficiency, but design quirks and the lack of certifications make it less compelling than a few key competitors.
