Frizzlife MK99 Under Sink Water Filter

The filtration system of the Frizzlife MK99 is a 2-stage process involving a sediment filter and an advanced carbon filter that work together to effectively eliminate contaminants in the water.

Things we like

  • Filters out contaminants down to 0.5 microns
  • Leaves essential minerals intact in the water
  • Decent filtration capacity of up to 1,600 gallons
  • Has a high flow rate of about 24 gallons per minute
  • Installation and filter replacement is quick and easy

Things we don't like

  • Shorter filter life although much cheaper to replace than other brands
  • Designed to purify only city water

The Frizzlife MK99 is an under sink water filter that has earned high ratings from many different users due to its fantastic performance and water flow production after installation.

Filtration Performance

The filtration system of the Frizzlife MK99 is a 2-stage process involving a sediment filter and an advanced carbon filter that work together to effectively eliminate contaminants in the water.

The 1st stage employs a pleated polypropylene (PP) sediment filter with 5-micron precision and it clears out particles and sediments such as silt, sand, rust, and scales from the water.

The Frizzlife MK99 is 100% constructed using polypropylene media hence it won’t degrade even when exposed to many different chemicals.

On top of that, it’s made up of multiple membrane layers that are thermally bonded together, and as such, it provides consistent pore sizes and a much better dirt-rejection capacity than other sediment filters.

The 2nd stage consists of a highly effective carbon block filter which does the heavy lifting removing more than 58 contaminants commonly found in unfiltered water.

This advanced carbon filtration media with 0.5-micron precision which is by far smaller than most other similar under sink filters can remove up to 99.99% of chlorine, lead, chloramines, and other chemical contaminants. In the same process, unpleasant tastes and odors are also cleared out of the water.

Volatile organic compounds, carcinogens, chromium 6, and heavy metals like mercury are all removed by this filter too. If you are looking for a unit that’s good at clearing out heavy metals, then this will make an excellent choice.

A key feature we also liked about the Frizzlife MK99 is that it’s intentionally designed such that it leaves the essential minerals intact. Therefore, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and sodium which are all important building blocks for achieving a healthy body will remain in the water while it strips the other contaminants.

Capacity and Efficiency

The filtration capacity of this Frizzlife MK99 is not the highest out there but it’s pretty decent. It offers a filtration capacity of 5000 gallons for chlorine and 1000 gallons for lead reduction.

The overall capacity is 1,600 gallons which means it can serve you for up to 2 years depending on your feed water quality and daily usage. However, Frizzlife recommends changing the filter after every 6 to 8 months to ensure better filtration throughout.

The unit is generally super-efficient like most other under sink water filters since it produces no wastewater. Furthermore, although it delivers water on demand, the flow rate is quite high.

It can deliver 1.5 gallons of filtered water per minute at 40 psi and up to 2 gallons at the standard municipal water pressure of 60 psi, so no long waiting times when filling a large container.

Installation and Maintenance

Featuring the quick twist-in installation design, setting up Frizzlife MK99 and replacing the filters is easy-peasy. It will take less than 5 minutes to install it and the package comes with all the supplies required to complete the installation including the system mount, tubing, and a plastic filter wrench.

The unit can fit either the 1/2” or 3/8” cold water line under your sink hence no extra adaptors are needed and it connects directly to any standard faucet.

Alternatively, you can order one with a dedicated faucet if you prefer to have a separate dispenser for the filtered water but you will have to drill another hole in your sink to accommodate it.

As I mentioned earlier, the manufacturer recommends replacing the filter every 6 to 8 months. It’s not the longest lifespan but the good thing is that replacing the filters is really cost-effective.

Unlike other brands, the Frizzlife MK99 was designed with the core filter cartridge placed inside the plastic housing. Therefore, you simply change the inner cartridge alone without tossing out the housing which cuts down the cost of replacing the filter periodically.

The filter head itself has a built-in shut-off valve and this is a thoughtful addition that will allow you to carry out the filter cartridge replacement without having to turn off the water supply which is very convenient.

On the downside, besides the filter cartridge having a short lifespan, this model although is designed for use with only city water. It’s not for heavy-duty filtration needs like purifying totally untreated water from a well source.

With that said, the Frizzlife MK99 might not have the highest capacity, but it does provide an effective filtration system that’s capable of removing many contaminants and producing clean and better-tasting water.
