The Bestfilters WU002 is quite a decent and reliable under sink water filter with regards to performance and overall efficiency. It’s able to effectively clear out a wide range of different contaminants and offers a relatively high filtration capacity.

Filtration Performance

The filtration process of the Bestfilters WU002 involves multiple stages with the two main filtration media being KDF/GAC and solid activated carbon block. This filter combination is able to efficiently remove many different kinds of organic and inorganic contaminants that are present in the water.

The 1st cartridge of the unit contains a mixture of KDF 55 filtration media and granular activated carbon. The granular activated carbon media helps clear out most of the chlorine taste and odor from the water while the KDF 55 media does a great job at removing heavy metals including mercury, lead, chromium, and nickel.

Three stages of sediment filtration have also been incorporated in the first cartridge and they utilize polypropylene media to trap large sediments like dirt, dust, and rust. The KDF 55 media equally creates a bacteriostatic environment that helps inhibit any bacterial or algae growth within both the first and second cartridges.

The 2nd cartridge contains a 1-micron solid carbon block filter which effectively removes the remaining chlorine taste and odor, heavy metals, and most of the chemical contaminants such as VOCs. It as well clears out cysts like giardia and cryptosporidium. This cartridge is equally able to trap 85% of 0.5-micron particulate matter and more than 99% of 1-4 micron particulates.

Generally, the two cartridges manage to deal with most of the common contaminants found in municipal water. They are quite effective at dealing with chlorine taste and odor, as well as cysts and sediments. The water comes out clear and has a better taste since healthy minerals like calcium, potassium, and magnesium are not eliminated during the filtration process.

Capacity and Efficiency

The overall filtration capacity of this Bestfilters WU002 under sink water filter is 2,500 gallons which translates to about 1 year when generating around 7 gallons of filtered water per day. It’s not such a long lifespan but it’s better than the carbon filters of most RO systems which tend to last only for 6 to 8 months.

The flow rate of water within the system is 1.5 GPM which is pretty decent for an under sink water filter. You won’t have to wait long to fill a large container with filtered water.

The Bestfilters WU002 can withstand a maximum operating pressure of 75 psi hence you will be able to get great results with the city water pressure alone without requiring a pump.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing the Bestfilters WU002 is not difficult at all provided you have some basic DIY skills or plumbing experience. It comes with all the installation parts including polypropylene tubing and John Guest ¼” MNPT quick connectors. The whole unit measures 10.5W x 11.5H inches, so it’s not large – it can easily fit in a small under sink cabinet.

The part that might pose a challenge is mounting the faucet, but if you have an existing faucet hole on your countertop, then there won’t be a need for drilling.

The faucet itself is sturdy, and durable, and looks attractive in its chrome finish. It’s around 8.5 inches high with a 4 inches reach, so a tall glass or cup can fit under it without any problem.

Replacing the filters is simple. A wrench is provided to help you unscrew the housings when you need to change them which you’ll have to do once every year. The housings will also require replacing every 5 years since they are made of food-grade materials that become brittle over time.

To sum it all up, the Bestfilters WU002 water filter is a good option if your water supply has a strong chlorine taste and odor. It’s also an ideal option for filtering sediment-rich water and other common chemical contaminants. However, if your main water supply is from a well, then we wouldn’t recommend it.
