The AquaYouth 2.0 Shower Filter utilizes a powerful multi-stage filtration process that comprises a dual PP filter, activated carbon filter, and DOLKI anti-bacterial balls (ceramic balls).
Installing a shower filter is not only essential when it comes to protecting and keeping your hair and skin healthy, but it’s also a convenient way to elevate your shower experience so that you can feel extra clean.
In this post, we’ll be looking at the AquaYouth 2.0 shower filter which is made exclusively in Korea by AquaYouth, a fairly known company that has been making great strides at becoming one of the top shower filter manufacturers in the market.
The company’s focus is solely on producing shower water filtration products including shower filters and shower heads.
The distinct thing about their products is their sleek design that’s both modern and aesthetically pleasing. Their performance is equally impressive and the AquaYouth 2.0 shower filter does well to prove that.
It’s a powerful multi-stage shower filter that very effectively removes chlorine, heavy metals, and other common contaminants present in shower water including sediments and organic chemicals.
You are left with only clean and pure shower water.
The AquaYouth is also one of the few shower filters on the market that have received NSF certification.
The water flow through it is good too – it doesn’t change the water pressure at all.
It’s easy to install and the filter replacement process is also simple.
The overall built quality as well seems pretty decent.
Most of the feedback from users was very positive as many reported noticing instant differences in their water quality as well as their skin and hair.
They mentioned that their skin completely changed for the better after installing the filter.
With that in mind, here is our in-depth review to give you more insight into it.
Filtration Performance
The AquaYouth 2.0 utilizes a powerful multi-stage filtration process that comprises a dual PP filter, activated carbon filter, and DOLKI anti-bacterial balls (ceramic balls).
This three-tiered filtering system has been certified against NSF/ANSI standards 177 and 372 for the reduction of chlorine and leads respectively.
It’s a fairly robust filtration system capable of removing a broad range of contaminants from the shower water, including sediments, most chemical contaminants, and other heavy metals apart from lead.
The dual polypropylene pre-filter clears out most of the debris and sediment lingering in the water down to 5 microns – it basically eliminates all the rust, dirt, sand, and many other fine sediments that may be present in the water.
The activated carbon filter is made from coconut shell and it’s a high-grade carbon filter that effectively removes 99% of the chlorine content in the water, including chlorine odor.
Besides chlorine, the activated carbon filter removes all herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, and many other organic compounds.
The two filter media along with the ceramic balls (which likely consist of calcium sulfite) also reduce hydrogen sulfide and heavy metals, including lead (63%), mercury (100%), iron (100%), and copper (33%).
The ceramic balls also help inhibit bacterial growth within the filter system, which is essential considering that it’s designed to leave some residual water in the housing/casing after each shower, which is a perfect environment for bacterial growth.
In general, this three-stage filtration process of the AquaYouth 2.0 shower filter does a relatively thorough job compared to most regular shower filters out there.
It’s effective at removing chlorine and most of the chemical contaminants present in the water as well as lead and other heavy metals like mercury, which can be quite harmful.
It significantly improves the quality of the shower water and it’s also able to reduce chloramine levels, although not as effective as it reduces chlorine.
This is because chloramine is a much more stable chemical than chlorine.
The water would have to flow more slowly through the filter so that it’s able to more effectively remove chloramine, which is not possible in a shower since the water flows rather quickly hence not giving the filter sufficient time to break down all the chloramine effectively.
Generally, there’s hardly any shower filter that can completely remove chloramines.
That said, many users were really pleased with the performance of this AquaYouth shower filter.
They reported noticing an immediate difference in the quality of their water. It had no foul smell whatsoever and it felt cleaner, fresher, and softer.
More than just having cleaner water, most users reported that their skin and hair were significantly improved after just a few weeks of using the filter.
They mentioned that their dry skin was significantly improved – it looked less dry and was actually softer.
The hair also had an improved texture and shine.
Many reported that it becomes noticeably softer and healthier-looking with less frizziness.
Others as well mentioned that their hair stopped falling out so much after installing the filter and their scalp became significantly less itchy and dry.
In short, the filter does seem to work effectively and although it doesn’t treat water hardness, or reduce TDS, most users claim that their shower water felt softer when they started using the filter.
We can’t really confirm that, although the filter can lower the TDS level a little bit, nothing substantial.
Aquayouth 2.0 Shower Filter Installation
Installing this AquaYouth shower filter presents no challenge at all. It’s a twist-on installation process that’s quick, easy, and doesn’t require any special tools or a professional plumber to do it – you can do it yourself within just a few minutes. It attaches directly to your existing shower configuration.
You just detach your existing shower head and attach the connector to the shower pipe, and then the shower filter.
From there you can flush the filter for around 2 to 5 minutes to get rid of the black carbon residues and then attach the shower head to the filter, and you’re good to go.
It’s a quick installation process that won’t take more than 10 minutes to complete.
The filter has a universal fit, so it can work with all the standard showerheads, whether hand-held or wall-mounted/fixed.
You don’t need to get a new shower head as it will work with your existing shower head and it comes with all the connectors needed to complete the installation.
The downside is that the whole unit is slightly big.
It drops the height of the shower by roughly 3 inches hence also lowering the headroom, which can be inconvenient for taller people as it may not provide a better fit.
You might have to bend slightly to use the shower if you are quite tall or put the shower head at an angle where the water spray can reach your head, which might also be challenging since the connectors are so short that the shower want/head cannot bend down if it’s fixed.
Moreover, if your showerhead has a deeper female end, it might not work without an extension.
If you have a shorter shower arm/pipe, then installing it can be a bit difficult also because it might hit the wall. Several users also complained that the connector pieces are too short, especially with the washers set in place.
Once you put the washer into the connector piece (that connects to the shower arm, for instance), only 2 rings of threading are left in there, which is not enough to tighten the connector onto the shower arm hence causing it to fall off instantly (no matter how much you tighten it).
You have to take out the washer so that there are more rings of threading or reverse the connector such that the larger end goes to the shower arm while the small side goes to the filter, although it will still not be super tight or secure.
This, however, wasn’t actually a widespread problem since a majority of the users had no issue with the connectors – for most, they fitted tightly to the shower arm and the shower head, even with the washers in place.
Some users also did report water leaking between both of the bolts, as well as, where the bolts meet the canister/casing.
Again, only very few users reported experiencing these leaks, so it isn’t really a widespread problem either and you shouldn’t have much to worry about if you have a standard/regular shower arm and shower head.
One thing we liked about this AquaYouth shower filter is the fact that it can work just as well with warm or hot water. It’s effective in cold, warm, or hot water.
The activated carbon filter only stops working effectively when temperatures are between 115 and 120 degrees Celsius.
Given that shower water is usually below 104 degrees, the carbon media in this filter would be fully effective with any shower water temperature.
The other impressive thing is that the filter doesn’t reduce or affect the water pressure after installing.
Many reported that their water pressure didn’t change at all.
The filter has a large surface area for water to flow through, so it’s able to perform maximum filtration without restricting the water flow rate, hence it doesn’t affect the pressure of the shower water at all.
Maintenance
The simple design of the AquaYouth 2.0 also allows for easy filter replacements.
The filter casing/canister sticks out to the side, so you just twist it off to detach it, remove the old filter, and pop in the new one and then twist the casing back and you are done.
It’s that simple and requires no tool – other filters require you to completely disassemble the showerhead to replace the filter.
The filter is rated to process up to 3,500 gallons of water before requiring replacement, which is equal to a lifespan of 4 months for a medium to a large family with normal usage.
However, if your water supply/ shower water is extremely hard or contains a lot of chloramines, then the filter won’t last long – you are likely to replace it in 2 months or even less than that.
You may also have to replace it earlier if your daily usage is higher than the average family.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to know when it’s used up.
There’s no indicator of any kind. You just have to set an alarm on your phone for 3 or 4 months if the quality of your water is good.
The other way to know is to observe the water flow so that when it slows down, then that’s an indicator that it needs changing.
Build Quality
As we mentioned earlier, AquaYouth shower filters feature a sleek design and that’s attested in this model.
It has a sleek and stylish design that looks very modern with a black and chrome finish that would no doubt complement or enhance the aesthetics of any shower.
The unit itself is lightweight (weighs 1.2 pounds), but a bit bulky, measuring 9.6 x 3.9 x 3.5 inches. It would take up slightly more space compared to other shower filters.
However, the build quality is quite decent.
The chrome part and the dark filter housing are made using strong ABS plastic, while the fittings are made of brass. It’s a strong and durable unit that will last for a long.
Aquayouth 2.0 Shower Filter Reviews Final Remarks
Generally, the AquaYouth 2.0 is a highly reliable shower water filter that’s not only able to last long but can do its job right.
It’s very effective at removing chlorine and other harmful chemicals from the water. It’s able to also effectively remove heavy metals, especially lead and mercury.
Moreover, it’s an NSF/ANSI-certified filter, so you are guaranteed that it will perform as stated.
If your shower water has high chlorine content or heavy metals, this would be an ideal choice to consider.
It’s great too if you just want to improve the overall quality of your water and the health of your skin and hair.
It is easy to install and maintain, plus it doesn’t reduce the pressure of your shower water.
Many also reported that the company’s customer service is wonderful.
They are very responsive when reached, usually responding within 24 hours and you can contact them via email in case of any inquiries or issues with the filter.
The technical support representatives can even walk you through the whole installation process, even though it’s quite straightforward.
Furthermore, the filter comes backed with a one-year warranty, which is pretty impressive.
